Photo Journalism - Stuff nz
A regular photographer for The Whangarei Leader, The Sunday Star Times and NZ Gardener magazine since 2016. I adore this kind of work as it has me out there in the community meeting amazing people doing all manner of interesting things that make them just a little bit extraordinary.
I strive to create beautiful portraits for people in all walks of life. Musicians, artists, models, actors, dancers, personal trainers, farmers, mechanics, lawyers.... Everyone has a unique story to tell and it is such a fun process figuring out how best to convey these stories through eye catching imagery.
Portraits
Wedding Photography
Weddings are a pleasure to photograph and sharing in this special occasion is an absolute privilege.
These memories are sacred and you will look back on them for years to come, sharing your story of love and celebration.
I look forward to helping couples relax and thoroughly enjoy their day, while creating beautiful images to cherish.
Family Portraits
Family life is loud, fun, silly, magical and mostly it is about growing together with love and surviving the crazy times, and savouring the happy moments.
I have my own family and am acutely aware of how fast time flies in family life. I also have very few photos of my own childhood, and understand fully the importance of our history.
I love creating magic with families that will make them smile or cry for years to come.
About me
A friend said recently that as long as she had known me, and it's been a while, I've had a camera in my hand. She's right. I grew up kicking around in my Dad's studio and naturally developed a love for photography.
It's what I love to do.
The call of the North has taken me on a journey away from the hustle of Auckland, first to Whangarei where my partner and I built a beautiful earth home, and then on to a farm in the beachside community, Mangawhai to raise our family and live a gentler paced lifestyle than that of the city. Growing flowers and taking photos are two things I happen to be quite good at, so as well as doing freelance photography, I now have a wonderful flower farm - Seven Circles Farm :)
These skills have both been many years in the making. I earned a Diploma in Film and Television in 1995 and went into the work force as a lighting technician in theatre and film. Here I learned the principles of lighting; the integral element in photography. Staying with technical work, I moved into television and studied Black and White film photography and Digital Studio Photography part-time at AUT and Unitec respectively.
As my work has developed, I have taken more time to focus on wedding photography, portraiture (corporate, beauty and family) with the use of studio lighting and integrating the editing process into my work. With a strong background in computer based work, I find the editing process natural and an enjoyable part of my work, if somewhat time consuming!
Lately I have enjoyed focusing on a theme close to my heart - Powerful Women. This has come about naturally over the years with a few photoshoots coming my way involving personal trainers - and more recently pole dancers and burlesque performers. I thoroughly enjoy photographing people doing what they love, but especially connecting with other women who are pushing the limits of their sports and passions.
There are so many unique moments in life, some happy, some not so. I enjoy being a documentarian in my world. Stepping into a moment or place and capturing it from my perspective, and then sharing it with you.
Thank you for considering sharing your special moments with me as your photographer.
